First Drafts of German Battalion

I have just posted the first drafts of the German Battalion Reports on the Maryland Patriots page. I included a list of soldiers and a narrative with one or two paragraphs on each soldier. The German Battalion was drawn from Maryland and Pennsylvania, and while most soldiers were of German heritage, some were definitely not. This project represents my first research work in PA and MD. It's so interesting to learn of the differences between each of the states. PA is particularly interesting because many of its residents were pacifists - Quakers, Amish, and Mennonites. I am seeing many Lutherans in the PA companies, some German Reformed, and even a few Catholics. Another learning experience for me is how many ethnic Germans there were in Maryland. I've run across quite a few Lutheran and Reformed church records in German. I will update these reports as I continue to work on my research into the German Battalion.
